Forest Service of B.C.
The Forest Service of BC was faced with the daunting task of deciding how to make multi-million dollar silviculture investments in forest stands killed by the mountain pine beetle. Without the money to treat all stands, which ones should be treated? How could cost, economic return, biodiversity and community interests be balanced? How could decisions be made consistently across the Province?
Using decision modeling techniques, Steve Wilson led a team in the creation of an evaluation model to be integrated into the decision-making process, balancing multiple interests and providing the basis for consistent and transparent investments.
